Editorial Policy and Content Standards

Read the BEFORE.YOU editorial policy for researching, calculating, reviewing and correcting consumer guides.

Quick summary

Evidence before claims

Important facts should trace to regulators, official documents or another clearly named primary source.

Useful work before search traffic

A page must solve a distinct problem with a check, comparison, example or working tool.

Corrections based on substance

We change an answer when the evidence or method changes, not just to display a newer date.

Useful before comprehensive

We put the decision, calculation or checklist first. Pages must answer a distinct user need and add an original comparison, example or tool. We do not create location swaps, keyword permutations or pages whose only purpose is search traffic.

Evidence and accuracy

Editors prefer regulators, government agencies, laws and issuer documents for factual claims. Every guide names its sources and review date.

Estimates disclose inputs and limits through the published calculator methodology. We correct material errors promptly and name meaningful uncertainty.

How automation is used

Automation and generative tools may help with outlines, calculations, code or visuals. They do not supply personal experience or credentials.

Before publication, material is checked for source support, consistency, original value and a real reader need. Generated visuals are illustrations, not documentary evidence.

Publishing ownership

BEFORE.YOU does not offer self-service guest posts or rent sections of the site to outside publishers. Material moving through our internal article library is commissioned for this site's before-you-sign scope and must meet the same evidence and quality checks as every other guide.

Off-topic, promotional, thin, weakly sourced or substantially duplicate submissions are withheld. Publication access is not sold, and an outside organization cannot use this domain to rank unrelated content.

Independence

Advertising does not determine our conclusions, page order or tool output. We do not sell rankings. Sponsored material, if introduced, will follow the advertising disclosure. Editorial content never invents testing, credentials, quotations or user experience.

Quality gate

Before publication, a page is checked for intent match, title and H1 alignment, source quality, duplicate passages, accurate links, accessibility, intrusive advertising, and whether it adds value beyond a generic summary. Weak pages are improved or withheld.

Review and correction triggers

A page is reviewed when a source or formula changes. We also review it when a reader sends credible contrary evidence through the correction channel, or an editor finds an important ambiguity.

Corrections focus on the answer, calculation and source - Not cosmetic freshness. We do not advance a review date merely to make an old page look new.
