Determine how the fee is collected
A fee can be paid separately, deducted from proceeds or added to the financed balance. Each method changes either cash received or interest paid.
Build a proceeds bridge. Start with the stated loan amount. Subtract every charge withheld before funding and add any required cash payment. The result is the amount available for the purpose of the loan, which may be less than the balance owed.
Calculate net proceeds
Subtract every amount withheld from the nominal loan. If you need a fixed amount for the purchase, a deducted fee may require a larger loan.
Check whether interest reaches the fee. If a fee is financed, it becomes part of the balance used to calculate payments and scheduled interest. Record the fee itself and the repayment attributable to carrying it through the expected loan horizon.
Use APR with the itemization
APR can help compare finance charges, but still inspect the dollar fee, cash received and total payments. Make sure competing offers use the same term and proceeds.
Compare matched net proceeds. When offers deliver different usable cash, adjust them to a common proceeds target before comparing payment and total cost. Otherwise the apparently cheaper loan may simply provide less money.
Check refund treatment
Find whether any fee is refundable after cancellation, early payoff or failure to complete the transaction. Do not assume unused time creates a refund.
Compare with a no-fee quote
Calculate total cost and payment for both offers over the expected holding period. A fee can be worthwhile only if the rate benefit lasts long enough.

Will the fee be deducted or financed?

How much cash will I actually receive?
Net proceeds calculated
Is any part refundable?
Follow the fee from the headline amount to usable cash
An origination charge can be paid separately, deducted from proceeds or added to the financed balance. Those treatments produce different cash received and repayment results.

Questions that separate price from sales framing

Loan Fee and Net Proceeds Calculator uses the values from this review in a working calculation.
Reconcile the complete cost
Keep price, financing, credits and later-triggered charges separate until every amount can be traced. This prevents a lower payment or net figure from hiding a higher obligation.
For this decision, the first working threshold is concrete: Fee shown in dollars; Collection method identified; Net proceeds calculated.
Read those checks beside the sections on Determine how the fee is collected, Calculate net proceeds, Use APR with the itemization. Completing one item does not cure a mismatch elsewhere, so leave the decision open until the record is internally consistent.
Assign every unresolved row an owner and a date for receiving the missing document so it cannot disappear in the rush to sign.
| Cost control | Amount and source to record | Question before accepting |
|---|---|---|
| Fee shown in dollars | Copy the dollar amount or rate, its source page, what it includes and the condition that can change it. | Will the fee be deducted or financed? |
| Collection method identified | Mark the controlling page or source, its version date, the responsible party and any exception that changes the result. | How much cash will I actually receive? |
| Net proceeds calculated | Use current after-tax cash records and keep essential spending, irregular bills and protected reserves visible. | Is any part refundable? |
| APR compared | Copy the dollar amount or rate, its source page, what it includes and the condition that can change it. | What is the same loan with no origination fee? |
| Refund rule checked | Record the trigger, calculation, notice method, effective date and written confirmation of the exit result. | Will the fee be deducted or financed? |
| Same-term alternative obtained | Record the exact date, lead time, delivery rule and proof that notice was sent or received. | How much cash will I actually receive? |
Recalculate the total after every revision. A credit can reduce cash due without reducing the balance, and an optional financed item can add both principal and interest.
